The Perfect Mason Jar Gift For Crafty Kids
I’ve always been a fan of mason jars. They have so many uses, like storage for our craft supplies, pickling our cucumbers from the backyard, storage for the soup we just made last night…the list goes on and on. They also make beautiful and fun gifts and who doesn’t love a bunch of small surprises in a mason jar.
This project was inspired by my daughter’s current love of “surprises” that she is always making for me. One of those “surprises” was a mason jar filled with a bunch of her craft supplies. So colorful and fun! With that in mind, I thought a mason jar gift for kids filled with new and colorful craft supplies would be super fun and inspire creativity. Speaking of inspiration, here’s a great post by another mama at thinkbaby.org! Zoe has some wonderful crafts for the kiddos that puts those new supplies to good use.

The possibilities for what you can put in the jar are pretty endless as long as they fit (a.k.a. The kids scissors that were SO close, but didn’t fit). If the child you are giving this to is pretty small, you may want to opt for a plastic mason jar rather than a glass one. Here are just some of the items that would be a great addition to any kids craft jar. Just remember, you only have so much room, so you won’t need all of them.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED (ONLY REQUIRED IS THE JAR):
- Mason Jar
- Crayons
- Mini Markers
- Glitter Glue Pens
- Googly Eyes
- Wood Sticks (Popsicle sticks)
- Glue Stick
- Pom Poms
- Felt or Foam Stickers
- Regular Stickers
- Acrylic Gems
- Mini Clothes Pins
- Beads
- Buttons
- Small Spool of Thread
- Feathers
- Balloons
- Pipe Cleaners (Bent in half or cut to fit)
- Straws (Cut to fit)
- Ribbon
- Washi Tape
1. Once you’ve purchased all of your craft supplies, gather everything together.
2. Start adding the larger items first to make sure everything fits. Tilt the jar a bit to keep the tall and slender items upright (like crayons, glitter glue pens, etc) while you add any rolls of tape, ribbon or string.
3. Once the larger items are added, fill in the gaps with the smaller (i.e. gems, stickers, googly eyes) or soft (i.e. pom poms) items.
4. Screw on the lid and add a cute ribbon bow.
If you’re feeling generous, add a small stack of colorful paper to the gift as a starting place for all of those markers, stickers, googly eyes, etc.
This jar would make a wonderful present for any crafty kid you know and a great non-candy option for any Easter basket. Watch them open it and let their imagination run wild!

Follow the same instructions as the regular crafty mason jar. For a bit of extra sweet holiday fun and inspiration I included a few mini candy canes. Makes it a bit more festive and what child doesn’t like a bit of candy or chocolate.
